About Molly Knuth

In 2016, Molly Knuth was a high school English/Language Arts teacher-turned-stay-at-home mom who saw a need in her community to connect small businesses with their customers in a better way. 

Up until that time, most business owners in her small rural town of Cascade, Iowa, still depended on word-of-mouth advertising to attract new clients and jobs. It wasn’t until a pair of family members started a new business and brought Molly in to help with their marketing that she started a Facebook page, and the power of social media marketing for small-town small businesses really took off. 

Since 2016, Molly’s one client has blossomed into Molly Knuth Media: a digital marketing agency offering monthly social media management, website building and design, speaking and coaching opportunities, weekly live trainings on her Facebook and IGTV accounts, and new advertising avenues to spotlight rural businesses and the communities in which they can be found. What are the biggest roadblocks to doing social media marketing well?

People are often afraid of what they don’t know and social media can still feel new to local business owners. Small businesses are busy and tend to question whether they have the time or the budget to devote to marketing. And finally, many local businesses don’t believe they need it. They believe because they’re local, social media won’t do anything for them as their primary traffic comes from word-of-mouth referrals.

Why can’t I just use my personal Facebook profile to market my business?

Molly answers this thoroughly in the episode, but to start, it’s against Facebook rules. If you’re using a personal profile to market a business, you run the risk of having Facbeook shut you down. Plus, there are analytics, data, and tools available to support you as a business owner that don’t exist on a personal profile. Bottom line: get your business on a business Facebook page.
